VIRGIN NIGERIA SIGNS CODESHARE AND INTERLINE AGREEMENT WITH KENYA AIRWAYS
Lagos, Nigeria: 29 September 2009: Virgin Nigeria Airways, formerly Virgin Nigeria Airways Limited has signed a Codeshare and Interline agreement with Kenya Airways as it seeks to consolidate its market leadership position in the West African sub-region.
The signing of the Codeshares agreement by the Chief Executive Officers of both airlines comes on the heels of the birth of
Virgin Nigeria Airways.
Signing the Codeshare and Interline agreement on behalf of
Virgin Nigeria Airways, the Chief Executive Officer, Captain Dapo Olumide at the airline’s headquarters in Lagos today said that the partnership with Kenya Airways is a significant landmark in the history of the young airline which is now better positioned to further re-establish its culture of excellence in customer service delivery.
“Our codeshare with Kenya Airline will pave the way for the future of aviation in Africa as passengers will have direct access to the benefits of the wide route network which will ultimately benefit the travelling public”, Captain Olumide said.
Speaking in the same vein, the Chief Executive Officer of Kenya Airways, Mr. Titus Naikuni noted that African carriers are now cooperating more than ever before to develop aviation transport.
Mr. Naikuni said: “both airlines with proven track records will feed traffic both ways to further harness the opportunities of the codeshare and interline agreement” while also saying that the choice of
Virgin Nigeria Airways is premised on its reliability and established domestic and regional route network.
“Virgin Nigeria Airways understands how important it is to keep date with industry trends and the codeshare will offer ease of ticket purchase for the discerning travellers, before now, we have been seeking for a reliable partner, we are glad to have one now.’’ Naikuni further noted.
Both Virgin Nigeria Airways and Kenya Airways will by the new deal transfer passengers in a seamless tradition across their various networks.
By the codeshare agreement, both airlines according to the chief executive officers plan a virtual entry into various destinations outside their original destinations, using the services of each other.
